I had been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got the chance to today.
My friend told me about the amazing chilaquiles and they were delicious! The sauce and crunchiness to them was perfect! I also got the hot chocolate which was a perfect blend of sweetness!
It was very busy when I came (it was also a holiday) but the wait was not more than 30 minutes they move really fast because they have alot of sitting. I am so excited to come back here to try more stuff on the menu!
I visited The Filling Station Cafe with my friends.
I ordered the Huevos Rancheros plate and a bowl of Turkey Chili. I loved the breakfast plate, especially with the Spanish sauce. The chili was extremely good, too.
My friends ordered the Country Fried Steak plate and Pancakes with the Link Sausages & Scrambled Eggs. They both told me that their food was also delicious.
The service was definitely on point.
The inside of the restaurant was retro-style. Nice vibe.
The food, service, and ambiance were all a hit. I would return to the café whenever I am in the area.
I'm an old Orange County native. I grew up learning about the old OC. The orange groves. And the people who built the community. One of the cool things about OC is the Orange Circle. The Filling Station has been here just as long. As a real gasoline filling station. Years later the need was gone. And eventually became a coffee shop. I frequented here under the previous management. When the pie cases held pies. And the seating was inside. What The Filling Station has become today is something far more elegant and cultured. Being close to a college like Chapman and surrounded with great food, it's nice to find the perfect brunch spot. With servers that are familiar faces to the community.
On to the food. The waffle was so light and crispy. Yet full and, well, Belgian. lol. It was perfect with the strawberries and a side of Nutella. Butter was all that was needed. The coffee stands up to the coffee of decades ago. I added 5 creamers! I love a god strong roast. My hubby got the chileaquilles from the specials menu. He also enjoyed it. As there was nothing left when he was done. lol. I highly suggest enjoying the patio. The perfectly shaded patio and sounds of local parrots was nothing short of enchanting.
The Filling Station, an old gas station converted into this all American cafe is a good choice for brunch in Old Town Orange. We came on a nice sunny SoCal day with our furry friend in tow and were comfortably situated in their covered patio. It was a beautiful day for al fresco dining and the food paired quite nicely with it.
I threw caution to the wind as I got myself a good 'ol American chicken fried steak. Who's counting calories anyway? It was pure comfort food and no regrets there. Eggs Florentine was a dish well-liked at the table while there were two dishes (French Toast Breakfast Platter and Strawberry Belgian Waffle) I never got the chance to try as they were quickly devoured. I guess they had good reason to. Servers were friendly and cheerful as well.
